Testing Department
Greetings human, and welcome to the Experimental Testing Laboratory!
Here at the ETL, we welcome new subjects to help us ensure the game is as stable and bug-free as possible. Thank you for embarking on this journey with us!
If you have not done so already please:
Sign up for Newsletter HERE
Sign up for Discord (soon we will have a #private-testing channel)
Admission to this exclusive research facility has a few basic criteria:
1) You will need an Android mobile device (or emulator)
2) An email (preferrably gmail) we can use to send you a special install link. Please keep this link to yourself and do NOT share with anyone.
3) Some time to play the game. We have no minimum requirement here but hope you will become obsessed with every little detail and earn the title of Greatest ETL Champion to ever live!
Step 1: Obtain email authorization from a team member to become a tester in the ETL. Provide your email to team member. You can do this in Discord , Twitter @cthulhu_awakens or writing [email protected]
Step 2: Check provided email for invite to install the game. Do this FROM YOUR DEVICE. Click link and follow instructions.
Step 3: Play Game, have fun!
IF you encounter a bug/problem/error, or just something that seems 'off', CONGRATULATIONS! It's time to report your first bug!
NOTE: if you already have a build, but want to latest please UNINSTALL Cthulhu first, and then get new build from Google Play Testing page.
When reporting bugs, its important to provide the devs with as much information as possible. We intend on creating a more formal process but for now we request you send a Form Email directly to our CCO, Larry Holland.
Step 1: Open new email to [email protected]
Step 2: subject line should read M1Bug: 'insert_name_for_bug_here' . Try to come up with a descriptive name for the bug.
Step 3: Cut and past the following text into the email body, and fill out each field:
Device: Reproduction Steps: Gameplay Screenshots (attach) Debug Console Screenshots (attach) Video (attach)
<email end>
It is not 100% necessary for you to have complete information for every field, but please try to report as much information as possible.
Here is a description of each field in the form:
Bug Name: Used in both email Subject header and in the body as a field. A natural langaugre description you can create that is intuitive and simple. Example might be "Abilities dont work reliably".
Device: This is where we need to know what hardware device you are playtesting on. If it's an Android phone/tablet, please list the model name (Ultra S21, Tab 6 etc.) and ideally the model number ( SM-X200NZAEXAC 64GBWi-FiGray). Be as specific as you can. Knowing how much memory the device has (8meg, 24meg etc.) is also useful. Reproduction Steps: This is possibly the most important part of the bug report. We need to be able to make the bug happen again. To do that, we need to know EXACTLY what you did to get the bug in the first place. An example might look like this:
- Launch game
- Play level 1
- with one Agent alive, cast Heal All Ability
- BUG: nobody is healed, even the Agent casting the Ability
- NOTE: This seems to only happen when fighting the Spider Queen boss
Description / Comment: This is just a natural language description of the bug and/or any additional information relevant. It might include specifics about your internet connection, or that you received a phonecall while playing, or you dropped your device or ....anything additional that might help the dev team. If you have questions, are not sure of something, this is the place to include that.
Congrats, you are now ready to jump in and become a full-fledged ETL Tester! We are going to find an interesting way to reward the testers who are engaged and prolific. As a tester, you are an invaluable member of the Cthulhu Awakens Team..... we're watching you!
Seriously, thank you for helping, this is an extremely important service to the project.
